These bolts hold the crankcase halves and engine cover together, keeping the joint clamped tight enough for the mating crankcase gasket to seal properly. When a bolt becomes stripped, corroded, or loses its clamping force, the crankcase joint can’t be torqued down evenly, weakening the gasket seal and risking a loss of crankcase compression. Fitting a new bolt set restores even, secure clamping across the crankcase joint.
